IKEA Hack: Designer Inspired Nightstands

Nightstand Ikea Hack

This week I finally got around to finishing my nightstands, which I purchased from IKEA about 2 months ago. I originally wanted to get these beautiful designer side tables from Bungalow5, but I decided to try out a cheaper version and make my own using IKEA dressers, which only cost $50/each.

In 10 easy steps I turned the IKEA dressers into designer inspired nightstands and here’s how you can too!

STEP 1: Pour yourself a drink, my preferred choice was wine, since we all know how IKEA assembly goes, the drink helps make it a little less frustrating.

STEP 2: Follow the directions and assemble the dressers.

STEP 3: Prime the dressers. I only primed the areas that I was going to paint, which did not include the inside of the drawers, but if you want to have those finished as well, then prime those areas. The primer that I used was ZINGER (R) Bulls Eye 1-2-3 (R) Water-Base Primer

STEP 4: Let it dry. Once the primer is dry, give it a light sanding, this will smooth out the surface for a nicer paint finish.

STEP 5: Choose your paint color. I went with Benjamin Moore Cloudy Sky 2122-30

STEP 6: Paint the dressers. I used Benjamin Moore Advance Interior Paint in a pearl finish. This product is great for furniture or cabinets and the pearl sheen gives just enough sheen without being too gloss. Plus it goes on really easily.

STEP 7: Pick your hardware. I chose these ring pulls from AllModern.

STEP 8: Apply 2nd coat of paint.

STEP 9: Put on your hardware and put your drawers in the dresser.

STEP 10: Put in place and style! Add a lamp, some books and a flower and ta-da! A beautifully styled nightstand.
